My group and I researched and analyzed different magazine adverts so that we had an idea of the common conventions of adverts inside of magazine. We looked at Rihanna again, Ellie Goulding and Jessie J.

Researching and Planning Task: CD packages

My group and I researched and analyzed different CD packages so that we had an idea of the common conventions of Cd packages and adverts inside of magazines. We looked at our chosen artist during a different album campaign to get an idea of how her record label represents her in comparison to the album our chosen song is taken from. We also looked at other artists within the genre such as Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, and Jessie J.

Day 6 Filming: The Studio

We filmed at the TV Studio at our college once again to film all of Kevin's solo shots which are very important in our music video. We filmed Kevin singing Future's parts in the video from various angles. Filming Kevin was incredibly easy because he knew the lyrics, and he knew the character we were trying to build.

Day 5 Filming: The Studio

On our fifth day, we filmed at the TV Studio in our college again with both Hannah and Kevin present. This didn't take long as both actors knew the lyrics incredibly well and had experience shooting together. We managed to film all of Hannah and Kevin's intimate shots and all of Hannah's solo shots in the studio. However we weren't able to film Kevin's solo shots due to him having an audition. Therefore we will film the remainder of his scenes later on in the week.

Day 4 Filming: Springfield Park

We filmed again at Springfield Park with both Hannah and Kevin. We filmed all of Kevin's solo field shots and also the joint shots of both actors. Our actor Kevin was incredibly prepared and looked great with Hannah. As they are friends and study Performing Arts they had incredibly chemistry and this shows in our footage. We additionally re-filmed some of the shots we originally filmed with Hannah on 20th October because the camera wasn't in focus during certain points and we could now make use of the tripod. Again we were interrupted by people while filming but we had to work around this as we were filming in a public park.

Editing - Stage 1

Using Final Cut Pro on the Mac computers, we started editing today and began to use our storyboard to add certain shots to the timeline. As we all had experience using the software, we all had a fairly good idea of how the use the software, but we all had room for improvement. In terms of our footage we were all happy with the work that we had so far and can't wait to return to filming to complete the video. We worked on all of Hannah's solo parts, as we had scrapped D'Angelo and were looking for a new male actor. We have decided to leave transitions until the video is finished so we can see if it naturally flows well first.

Below is a Prezi that contains the Risk Assessment sheets that had to be filled in before the filming process began. All of the forms were signed by us and we took careful consideration when filling them in, aware of all the dangers that were present for us and our actors.

Male Actor Update

Due to our discontent with D'angelo's footage we have decided to use Kevin to play Future in our music video.

 

Day 3 Filming: The Studio

Although I was not present at today's filming because I had a college trip, I met up with my team members after to watch the footage and discuss whether we wanted to keep D'angelo. We were all positive about today's filming because we had finally chosen a male and he looked good with Hannah. I was informed wasn't organized and answered phone calls during the middle of filming. From the footage that I saw, he didn't know any of the lyrics and was very over-confident. We decided to change the male character at the last minute that would take our work seriously and compliment Hannah's work ethic.

Day 2 Filming: Springfield Park

The second day of filming was equally as good as the first. We filmed at Springfield Park for our field shots. Again, we used the shoulder mount for all of the filming because the tripod was faulty. We were interrupted a few times because of people walking by while we were filming but we knew this would be an issue because we were filming in a public location

Day 1 Filming: The Terrace

Today myself and my group filmed at the Terrace location, which is located at my group member Nyasha's house. The footage we got was excellent and our model Hannah was really good. She knew all of the lyrics and used our criticism effectively. However our tripod was faulty so a lot of the shots were filmed with the shoulder mount. While filming on the Terrace, we decided to use a male actor called "D'angelo" who was a "friend" of Hannah's. We wanted our actors to have great chemistry on-screen so we thought it would be a good idea to use somebody that Hannah was confident with.

Booking Equipment for Filming

Our group booked our equipment for filming today. We booked a Canon DSLR HD camcorder for the best quality filming as we are filming in natural locations tomorrow and also on Sunday. We can film a range of shots with the DSLR such as close-ups and extreme long shots which will be featured in our music video. We also booked a tripod and a shoulder mount so we have a choice when we are filming

Female Actor Update

We will be filming on October 20th & 21st and we have decided to use Hannah Skyers to play Rihanna in our music video. Hannah appealed to us because she was very reliable and seemed quite eager to act in our music video. During her audition, it was clear that she had thoroughly rehearsed the lyrics and could easily adapt to being vulnerable.

We haven't yet decided on a male character so we will film all of Hannah's solo scenes this weekend. When we decided on a male, we will film their joint and the male's solo shots together.

Record Label Copyright Email

To prevent any copyright issues, I had to write an email to Universal Music Group asking for permission from them to use "Loveee Song" by Rihanna & Future. Rihanna is signed to Def Jam Recordings which is owned by UMG, so I decided to directly contact UMG via their email address.

Media Recee

We decided to record our Media Recee and upload it on YouTube instead of writing our thoughts on a word document.

Editing Tutorial

In today's Media lesson, my group and I attended an editing tutorial in order to prepare us for editing our music video when we have finished editing. We will be using a Mac computer to edit on Final Cut Pro for our final music video. The program gave us a head start and a vivid understanding of how to control basic functions such as how to cut a video clip and lighting effects.

 

Music Video Inspiration & Ideas

Ciara & 50 Cent - Can't Leave 'Em Alone

There are several shots in this video that my group are inspired by. The close up shots of Ciara & 50 Cent caressing each other (2:01) emphasise they cannot be without each other and displays their affection. We would like to incorporate these scenes into our music video to display vulnerability and how they will no longer be lonely once they are intimate together.

RoxXxan - To F**ckin Facety

We were particularly inspired by the shots of the balloons behind RoxXxan at the beginning of the video and throughout the video in the park etc. We would like to incorporate balloons spelling out "LOVE" in the field location into our music video.

Auditions

Today we held auditions for our music video to see who would fit the role to play Rihanna and Future. We managed to cut down our options to two boys and two girls.

Treatment Paragraph

We are planning to do a performance based piece to “Rihanna ft. Future – Loveeee song “. We have thought of several of ideas and have come to a conclusion that we would base the music video around two characters one female and one male. It would be shot in 3 different locations which would be the studio, a rooftop and a field. We plan to incorporate different camera techniques such as mid close ups , wide shots and extreme close ups.
